I believe that it would have been fairly simple for those distributions to have included it. My comments on the index page of this set of pages referring to distributions which do not provide WINE in the initial installation should be noted I was not prepared to install WINE as an extra for a number of reasons, time being an important constraint. I have trialled it in one Linux distribution, and this is far from an exhaustive test. You don't actually need to run an MS Windows machine again to do this task :) Read on for my findings on these excellent applets that quietly run in Linux through WINE. This is because of the basic difference between open source software and proprietary (closed source) software. Nobody guarantees it, because the "rules" that Microsoft applies to the Windows API can be changed at any time. There is not a 100% success rate with using WINE.
